Myths and Beliefs
Our Collection
Often associated with death and decay, moths that fly into domestic homes are believed to be the souls of recently deceased kin, visiting their loved ones before passing on into the afterlife. This created an inauspicious image for the moth and they are often feared for baseless reasons. In actual fact, moths often seek the light and are harmless misunderstood creatures of the night.
Our Products
Our products are pieced together with different hand embroidered techniques and its design was inspired by various elements of the moth. We chose to focus on hand embroidery as threads and textiles reflect the fragility of the moth. In addition, we added sporadic pops of bright colours amongst the dull ones to represent the often unseen beauty of the moth. The holes in our pieces are designed with the intention to signify the moth-bitten notion, aiming to showcase the charm of what is normally seen as ugly.
Cahaya was being exhibited at Myths and Beliefs, an extended exhibition by LASALLE College of the Arts. It is also a part of the Gallery Light to Night Festival held at the National Gallery Singapore, Former Supreme Court Foyer
